Denver Landscaping Ideas

March 12, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment

landscapingThere is no doubt that when landscaping one wants to save money, as well as have an attractive Denver property. Not only can landscaping help you beautify your Denver home, but it can also provide a source of satisfying exercise in the fresh air. When you take care of your yard on your own, it is possible to save money and to improve your physical conditioning. But if the Denver landscape turns out to look bad, then that is so much time and money wasted. However, it is possible to ensure a better-looking landscape by following a few tips that can help you take better care of your yard.

Know your soil type. Some plants thrive in soil with more acidity, and others prefer a little more alkali. Additionally, sandy soil and clay soil, as well as the presence of a loamy soil, can make a difference in what types of plants will thrive in a Denver landscape. You should have your soil evaluated in order to determine what types of vegetation should be planted on your property. When you purchase plants that will succeed in the soil conditions present in your yard, then you make a wiser money decision, and you end up with a more attractive landscape. If there are plants that you would like to use in your soil, but the soil is not quite ideal, it is possible to improve the soil to proper conditions. You need only add mulch or peat, or to add crushed limestone or clamshells, depending upon what you hope to accomplish. As long as there is not a great difference in what you have and what you hope to achieve, it is possible to make soil adjustments to be more accommodating.

Understand how much space each of the plants need. There are some plants that require more room for their root systems than others. If you choose one plant that tends to grow everywhere, and you do not have adequate space, you will find that your other plants may be crowded out or that they may choke and die. Also, make sure you understand the spacing requirements for between plants. Many shrubs and small trees need to be planted at least three to four feet apart to have enough room to grow.

Use native plants in your landscape design. One of the most effective things you can do to ensure a good-looking yard is to make use of native plants. Find out what plants grow best in your area, and what plants are indigenous to the region. This way you will already be ahead, in that you know that the plants you choose are adapted to the climate. You will not have to struggle against natural inclinations to keep your landscape looking beautiful. If you due use non-native plants, assure yourself that they come from a place that shares a climate similar to the one in which you live.

Plan your landscape around different blooming times. Different plants bloom at various times throughout the year. If all of the plants in your landscape are at their most attractive all at the same time, then your yard will look beautiful for a few weeks each year, but quite possible ugly the rest of the year. One way to help avoid this is to choose attractive bushes and shrubs that look good green, but also have some sort flower. However, it is a good idea to stagger plants among each other. Plant tulips and crocus among later-blooming plants so that in early spring the bulbs bloom, and then when those flowers’ time is up, the next plants will be in bloom. In this way the cycle of your landscape is in keeping with the seasons, and looks attractive all year round.

How To Hire A Denver Contractor

November 20, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

If you are planning to remodel your Denver home or add one or more rooms, one of the most important decisions you will make will be the choice of the Denver contractor you hire to do the work. There are several important considerations in choosing a contractor. But the first step is finding good contractors to interview for your project.

Keeping in mind some important considerations about choosing the best Denver remodeling contractor for the job will help you narrow the field when you start trying to find the contractors you will interview.

Here are some of the key considerations:
• Does the Denver contractor have experience with the specific kind of work you want done?
• Does the Denver contractor have a good reputation in the community?
• What kind of reputation does the contractor have for pricing his/her work?
• Who recommended the Denver contractor?
• Have there been complaints or lawsuits against the contractor?
• Is the Denver contractor properly certified and/or licensed?
• Do you have reason to believe you can trust the contractor to be in your home and around your family?
• Do you have reason to believe the contractor will provide the promised quality of work?

When choosing the Denver remodeling contractors you will interview and from whom you will request estimates on your project, you will certainly want to do your homework and check out each contractor you are considering. You will also want to be certain they will abide by local zoning laws and building codes. No matter how carefully you check out a contractor you are considering, a strong recommendation from someone you know and trust will be one of the most important factors in your decision and evaluation.

Because of the importance of trusted recommendations, this is the best place to start when you are looking for the right contractor for your project.

Here are some of the best ways to find reliable Denver contractors:
1. Ask family members who have had work done in their homes.
2. Ask friends who have had similar work done.
3. Ask neighbors who have remodeled.
4. Ask co-workers about their remodeling experiences.
5. Ask local builders for recommendations.
6. Ask for recommendations from providers of building supplies.
7. Check with the better business bureau and the chamber of commerce in your area.
8. Ask the state licensing board.

These people should be able to give you a list of reliable Denver contractors. You should then ask around about their reputation and check out their background and the quality of their work carefully. Remember that it is okay to ask to see previous work by contractors, especially work that is similar to the project you are planning.

Denver Kitchen Remodeling Ideas

November 7, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

Denver kitchen remodelingFunctionality and aesthetics are the two main objectives of any kitchen remodeling plan. A kitchen must provide an efficient working place, even while it looks good.

Most kitchen designs in vogue for the last few decades have been based on three standard layouts: the U-shaped kitchen, the L-shaped kitchen and the galley kitchen. All of them make use of the classic work-triangle concept that basically positions the three major kitchen components (refrigerator, stove, and sink) in a triangular pattern.

With changing lifestyle and man-woman roles, whereby both wife and husband share home responsibilities, multiple work centers or work stations within the kitchen are gaining popularity in order to allow more than one person to work efficiently without getting in anyone else’s way.

Adding an island is one of the most common ways to have multiple work centers into a kitchen. An island creates two to four small work stations along the perimeter of a kitchen. These stations can become major work centers if a second sink is added.

Placing gadgets and appliances in the kitchen in such a way that they do not obstruct movement is important while preparing remodeling plans. Selecting the cabinetry that best suits your needs and budget, determining whether re-facing or replacing will be your best option would be crucial factors.

The Denver kitchen remodeling plan will have to also include scope for new sinks and plumbing, dishwashers, and ovens, ranges, and built-in microwaves. One has to also examine if your exhaust is in the right place and works more efficiently.

You also need to explore if your new kitchen can be remodeled around your existing floor plan or the space needs to be increased to accommodate your appliances and gadgets. Your new kitchen floor needs to be fashioned around the uses, sizes, and footprints of your appliances.

A well-planned and executed kitchen remodeling project can make a significant difference, both in the livability of your home, and in its value.

Denver Remodeling Ideas

October 28, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

Denver remodeling ideasChanging your floor covering is one of the most popular Denver remodeling ideas. It is very easy to just replace floor coverings with new and slightly different versions of the same thing. When the carpet begins to show signs of wear and tear, many homeowners just replace it with new carpet of the same type. But thinking a bit more imaginatively about flooring options opens a world of new home improvement ideas.

Carpeting is a good choice for most rooms of the house. It is probably not a good choice for kitchens, bathrooms and laundry rooms. Carpeting is available in a wide range of colors, designs, textures and prices. And carpet is relatively quick to install. But there are other flooring materials that can change the character of a room.

Hardwood flooring and laminated wood flooring (engineered wood flooring) are great choices for almost any room of the house. Hardwood flooring is made of wood planks finished and often coated with a protective material. Engineered wood or laminated wood flooring is made by gluing together three to five pieces of hardwood.

Laminate flooring, made with some kind of fiber core material to which a printed layer is attached and a melamine coating is applied, can be made to resemble wood planks, stone and slate. This material gives the appearance of natural materials without the maintenance and the cost. Laminate flooring can also be used in any room of the house. It is a good choice for a kitchen, bathroom or laundry room makeover. It can also be used in basements, play rooms and bar areas.

Linoleum and sheet vinyl are great choices for areas where water is used. They are easy to install, they are water resistant, and they are very easy to clean and maintain. These materials are available in a huge range of colors and patterns, including patterns that mimic natural materials. Because they are so easy to install, linoleum and sheet vinyl are great home improvement ideas when you want an affordable change.

Natural stone or stone tile is a wonderful choice for many rooms of the house or as accent areas in a large room. Slate, granite and limestone can be perfect choices in rustic designs or to add a touch of elegance. Choosing the right stone to create the desired effect can completely transform a room and so it is among the most popular home improvement ideas. You might choose a natural finish stone for an entrance foyer or as an accent area around a fireplace. The color and pattern of granite will depend on where it was quarried.

Engineered stone tile is made by binding stone powder and chips. The most common type of engineered stone is quartz. Engineered stone tile is available in the same colors as natural stone and a few colors that are not found in nature.

Ceramic tile is another very popular flooring upgrade choice. It can be used on walls as well as floors. Ceramic tile is perfect in high-traffic areas and in rooms where water is used. It is easy to clean and maintain.
Other increasingly popular flooring materials offer unique home improvement ideas for creative homeowners. Cork, bamboo and reclaimed antique hardwood are environmentally-friendly choices. Cork and bamboo are rapidly-renewable products. These three materials, used individually or in combination can create a truly unique and durable flooring option to change the look of a room.

If you are looking for Denver remodeling ideas, think about new flooring. Your choice of material, color, texture and pattern can bring a fresh new look and feel to a room that feels stale

Over 30% Average Savings achieved by replacing 85%-86% AFUE cast iron boilers with System 2000. In this multi-year study, the U.S. Coast Guard in Kodiak, Alaska, replaced (24) new 85% and 86% AFUE cast iron boilers of various makes, indirect water heaters, and electric water heaters with System 2000 in residences.

The tremendous savings led to the 2007 replacement of another (150) cast iron boilers as part of a Super Energy Saving Performance Contract (Super ESPC) which is run by the Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP). This project capitalizes on the expertise and financing of the ESPC contractor to assist the Coast Guard in complying with the recent Executive Order which requires all Government agencies to reduce their energy use by 20% by 2015. The Coast Guard also realized operations and maintenance savings with System 2000 over the cast iron models.

Provides high efficiency heat using coils inserted into the same ductwork as heat pumps or central air conditioning in single or multiple zones.

The System 2000 is more than just hot air – it’s efficient and provides virtually unlimited hot water for a fraction of the cost of typical hot water heaters. Its hot water making ability also makes it ideal for commercial installations like restaurants, motels, laundromats, etc. The system’s low mass design with just 2.5 gallons of water is unmatched in its ability to provide near instant heat.
